Math tutoring

We don't just get through tonight's homework. We figure out why it's hard.

For students from middle school through college.

What tutoring with me looks like

I tutor math across middle school, high school, and college. I begin by focusing on what's most pressing to the student, and on understanding what's actually getting in the way.

For some students, it's a genuine gap in content knowledge. They missed something along the way and things haven't added up since. For others, the math itself isn't really the problem. It's how they approach it: the anxiety before starting, the difficulty organizing their work, the tendency to rush or shut down when things get hard.

Every student I work with gets my full attention and a plan that's built around how they specifically learn, struggle, and succeed.

I teach strategies and skills, not just content. Because getting through this week's test matters, but so does what happens next semester.

Who tutoring is a good fit for

  • Students with a specific math gap who need to catch up or build a stronger foundation and math fluency
  • Students who understand the material in session but struggle to apply it independently
  • Students preparing for a test, a new course, or a transition (like moving into high school or college math)
  • Students who've had tutors before but know they need to make more progress

When tutoring is enough — and when it isn't

Sometimes tutoring is exactly what a student needs, and that's the whole story. But sometimes what looks like a math problem turns out to be something else, and the executive function around the content is the real issue.

Tutoring

When the math is the problem

  • There's a clear content gap to close
  • Generally organized, but stuck on specific material
  • The challenge is short-term or test-prep focused
  • They need to build math fluency
or

Coaching

When getting started and finishing is hard

  • Knows the material but can't perform consistently
  • Starting, organizing, or following through is the struggle
  • The pattern shows up across subjects and life

If I notice that pattern while we're working together, I'll name it gently, and only when it's clearly getting in the way.
